Behavior of Al4C3 Particles During Flotation and Sedimentation in Aluminum Melts

Abstract Al 4 C 3 particles form during the primary production of aluminum via molten salt electrolysis due to carbon solubility and direct contact between bath, metal, anodes. Additional may melt processing through carbonaceous materials. As a result their small size similar density aluminum, removal carbide can be challenging. If not removed, carbides produce inclusion defects or poor surface condition in products. The current work studies behavior flotation with different gas mixtures, as well sedimentation. interaction 2 O films treatment processes was also studied reported. Factsage thermochemical software used model interactions at interface inclusions bubbles covered by films. highest degree obtained after an H O-containing argon mixture, where concentration dropped below measured limit corresponding temperature.
